Trip Report
Gold Country Lodge, LaPorte, CA
Jim and I recently spent a lovely snowmobile weekend in LaPorte, CA at the Gold Country Lodge. Owned and operated by Randy and Christine Romine, the lodge is a wonderful place for a snow-filled getaway. Being our first trip to the area, we were pleasantly surprised with how easy it was to get to LaPorte from Sacramento. It took no longer than going to Little Truckee Summit and best of all, there was no traffic (unlike I-80)!

We arrived with our sleddeck and camper in tow, as the Romine’s offer a few spaces for RV’s. But for those who prefer indoor accommodations, the lodge has several lovely rooms available, as well as a large apartment which can accommodate a family or group of friends. Everyone staying at the Lodge has access to a wonderful common area containing comfy couches, a large stone fireplace, big screen TV with satellite, pool table, washer/dryer, kitchen area, etc. that is perfect for your group gatherings. In addition to rooms, Gold Country Lodge offers snowmobile rentals at competitive rates.

Randy and Christine are truly gracious hosts. They took Jim and me on a couple of snowmobile rides and helped us find our way around the area. We soon realized that snowmobiling is BIG in LaPorte. There is an active snowmobile club which maintains over 80 miles of groomed trails as well as several staging areas and trailside warming huts. All types of terrain can be found and we especially enjoyed the hill climbing at Onion Valley.

The town of LaPorte is historical and charming. You almost hate to leave, especially since Christine loves to pamper her guests! She baked cookies and a cake for her guests, and served a huge breakfast that Sunday morning. If you’re looking for a fun, new place to snowmobile, Jim and I highly recommend staying with Randy and Christine Romine at the Gold Country Lodge in LaPorte.
